The Geography Of
Egypt
The geography of ancient Egypt had a impact on Egypt. The Nile Was a main part of the geography and it helped develop agriculture. The flooding of the Nile River helped water their crops and provided silt. The silt made fertile soil which improved agriculture. The Nile was also a main way to travel. The Egyptians didn't need roads because the Nile River was such a convenient way of going about. Additionally, the Nile River was a main water source for ancient Egyptians because they was lots of desert. On that note, the physical environment (like the desert) affected the Egyptians by protecting them. The harsh desert made it hard for when enemies attacked them to get though to them and if other armies were able to get through the desert the men would have gotten weak from lack of water. The geography had a major part in shaping Egypt; the Nile helped agriculture, it was a main source of water, it was good for transportation, and the psychical environment protected them.
Hail to thee O Nile, that issues
from the earth
And comes to keep Egypt alive! . . .
He that waters the meadows that
he created . . .
He that makes to drink the
desert . . .
He who makes barley and brings
emmer [wheat] into being
He who brings the ggrass into being
for cattle . . .
He who makes every beloved tree
to grow . . .
O, Nile, verdant art thou, who
makes man and cattle to live.
"The Adoration of the Nile" is a primary source that truly shows the affects of the Nile [Barter]. The Nile River not only affects Egyptian agriculture and transportation, but also their religion. This song shows that the Nile was worthy of praise to them like one of their many gods. They claim that the Nile "makes man and cattle to live," therefore affecting their beliefs.
