How to make a mummy

1. Embalmers washed the body with wine and rinsed them off using the water of the Nile River.
2. They would then cut open the left side of the body and take out their internal organs to dry them with natron. The heart is kept in the body since it is needed for intelligence and feeling in the afterlife.
3. Next, they would stuff and cover the body with natron to dry it out.
4. After 40 days, the embalmers would wash the body again and apply oils to keep the skin elastic.
5. The internal organs are returned to the body wrapped in linen and the body is filled with dry materials like sawdust and linen to make it look lifelike.
6. Wood or stone canonic jars were buried with the mummy to symbolically protect their organs.
7. Then the head and neck are wrapped with strips of fine linen. After that, each of the fingers and the toes separately wrapped.
8. Then the arms and legs are wrapped individually and amulets were placed in between the layers of linen to protect the body during the afterlife.
9. Priest read ancient spells to ward off evil spirts and to help the body with its journey to the afterlife while they wrapped.
10. The arms and legs are tied together and a scroll of spells for "The Book of the Dead" was placed in its hands.
11. More strips are wrapped around the body and each layer is glued together with resin.

13. Next, another large cloth is wrapped around the entire mummy. Strips of linen run from the top to the bottom of the mummy, and around its middle. A board of painted wood is placed on top of the mummy . Then the first coffin is put inside a second coffin.
14. They hold a funeral and his/her family will mourn.
15. To allow the deceased to eat and drink again, they hold a ritual called the 'Opening of the Mouth'. Lastly, the coffins are placed inside a sarcophagus in the tomb. They add furniture, clothing, valuable objects, food and drink in the tomb.
